Bite Your Tongue run finishes
September 5, 2017
I can't believe it's over! What an incredible honour it's been to share a space with such passionate, talented, tireless young theatremakers and pro creatives at Talawa for the month of TYPT. Thank you to Talawa for the opportunity, the wonderful team of lighting designers, SM, ASM, costume, voice, and movement heads and to everyone who came and gave us such vocal support. I sincerely hope it's not the end for Bite Your Tongue, which I am so so proud of as a piece.
The Stage reviewed it here and while the 3-star rating may not reflect my opinion of the quality of the work, it is perhaps not shocking given we wrote, rehearsed and staged Bite Your Tongue in a single month. What the reviewer does recognise is the energy, passion and ideas that went into it - just imagine what we'd achieve with a professional-length rehearsal period and run!
Audiences were so, so appreciative; just some of their kind words are pasted below.
I'm meeting agents this week in the wake of the show - fingers crossed for positive career progress on the back of this smash hit!

Well done to all of the cast and production team of TYPT:17 - AMAZING performances of Bite Your Tongue. A successful run!!! SOLD OUT SHOW; added matinee due to demand; standing ovation every night with crowds being unable to bite their tongue afterwards.
In less than 4 weeks they were able to create a piece of theatre that was thought provoking, moving, powerful, beautiful, creative (I could go on for days...) and bursting with talent from every angle.
Well done to all that made this incredible show possible!!! And to all those that came and supported!!! Production pics by @sanaabstrakt_art

‘The show is excellent. So much talent in that room. Urge you all to go see it [...] Bite Your Tongue was powerful, very well done and Jesus how talented those kids were. Isabel is very, very good. Funny, intelligent, moving, expressive and beautiful to watch.' - Film producer

‘All the performers in @TalawaTheatreCo "Bite Your Tongue" were powerful… one in particular @isabel_ay’ Clare Brennan (Observer theatre reviewer)

I thought it was an excellent piece and quite exceptional. YOU are so amazing!! And what I loved about it is that I felt everybody was performing exquisitely and at the same time still very authentically themselves. So, there was no pretension. I think part of the show could be polished a bit but that doesn't detract from the really clever messaging, questioning, exploring and utter brutal honesty. - Nici Dahrendorf, Academic

A provocative and moving experience, I hope you can continue to perform and expand it cus not only is it well acted, with each cast member getting a moment to shine, but it cleverly staged, well structured, engaging, and obviously, so goddamn relevant! Well done all! - Yassine Senghor, Blogger
