JMK Award at NT Studios
This weekend I was invited to take part in a day-long process being directed by shortisters for the James Menzies-Kitchin Young Director Award. The award, which has been running for 20 years, commemorates James, a promising director who died aged 28.
For 2019, the JMK Award has entered a new partnership with the Orange Tree Theatre, with the winner’s production forming a fully-funded core part of the theatre’s program, while the winning director receives a fee of £4000. I had the pleasure of working on a poem and several rehearsals for the directors’ proposed productions, then took part in a lengthy feedback session to help inform the judges’ decisions. I look forward to seeing the results, and the future work of all those emerging talents!
“The JMK Trust has been instrumental in talent-spotting and launching the career of some thrilling young directors, and the winners and runners-up over the years that the award scheme has been running make a starry list”
