MGC Bursary: Playwriting Incubator 2022

It begins! Earlier this year I wrote to MGC Futures asking them to help me with something I’ve been craving for a while now: time away from the rat race to write.

‘Devising with Produced Moon, NYT, Talawa, The Letter Room and my drag collective Pecs have shaped my creative practise so far, and taught me exciting ways to make theatre. But beyond collaboration, I want to tell my own stories; to develop my career to include writing.

To that end, in 2021 I completed the “Write Your Truth" programme with Theatre Queers, The Artist’s Way, and a playwriting course with Lisa Carroll at Mono Box; conceptualising, and learning the skills through which to develop, a play. Now, I am asking MGC Futures to fund the next stage: ring-fenced time for writing.’

I was lucky enough to be awarded a two-week bursary providing exactly that, and since late November I’ve been in Berlin developing what I hope will become my debut play. Helpfully, it’s too chilly to go out anywhere!
